According to reports, a new maritime link between Malta and Italy has been established, as the Grimaldi group of companies has announced it will be operating a new route between Civitavecchia-Catania-Malta starting from May 30. Initially, two weekly trips have been scheduled, departing from Civitavecchia on Tuesdays and Saturdays, reaching Catania in 20 hours and Malta in a further 12 hours. The group did not exclude it would increment the trips in due time. The Grimaldi group will also be doubling the scheduled trips between Catania and Malta and will now be operating four weekly trips. Grimaldi's commercial director Costantino Baldissara said that the group wanted to extend the spread of its network of routes in the Mediterranean in order to create the conditions for faster and more competitive logistics.
