Boat builder Alnmaritec launched the latest of its windfarm support vessels (WFSV) recently for long time client North Sea Logistics.

The 19m Wave Captain class boat is powered by 2 x 880bhp Doosan engines and reaches over 25 knots. She has demonstrated exceptional sea keeping characteristics and superb handling when approaching and pushing up on the wind turbines. Finished with the innovative ‘Intersleek’ paint system designed to provide fuel and environmental benefits, this state of the art wind farm support vessel (WFSV) design has full suspension seating for 12 and includes a large galley and mess area as well as four day berths on the lower deck.

The 11th boat built by Alnmaritec for North Sea Logistics, Discovery is also hull number 150 for the Blyth based company.  Managing Director Chris Millman commented “We’re delighted to hand over ‘NSL Discovery’ which is the latest of our builds intended to work in the growing offshore wind industry.”

North Sea Logistics Managing Director David Armstrong commented “We have been involved in the offshore wind industry for 13 years, starting with the construction of the Blyth Wind Farm in 2000 - at the time, the first offshore installation anywhere in the world - and during this time we’ve built a lasting and trusting relationship with Alnmaritec.”  Specifically in regard to ‘NSL Discovery’ Mr Armstrong said “"I am delighted with the performance of the new boat. She has proved herself on trials to be extremely capable in some very demanding conditions and she will be a real asset to our North Sea operations. She is a credit to the workforce at Alnmaritec and I am confident that she will prove to be one of the best vessels in the industry".

For Alnmaritec, Managing Director Chris Millman said "I am extremely happy with the way the boat has turned out. The wind farm market is an important one for us and we are determined to stay in the vanguard of the development of these boats."

But it’s not just the offshore wind sector Alnmaritec supply to as Mr Millman explains, ”We have been building boats for over 20 years and have supplied vessels to operate in some of the harshest conditions on every continent in the world, for clients operating in a range of sectors.  For example currently in build we have a pilot boat for a project in West Africa, a passenger vessel for a Scottish construction project and workboats for clients in Korea and Singapore which will be used in the Oil & Gas industry.”
